On Saturday mornings we run sessions at Edgworth School. These sessions are specifically tailored to children. The syllabus is designed around developing motor and social skills, as well as building confidence. Classes are kept small and skill range of each cohort is kept narrow for optimum development. Coach Martyn Skipper is an AMA certified coach, with enhanced CRB clearance, first aid at work certiicate and many years experience in the theory and practice of coaching children. Parents are encouraged to come along and watch us to ensure that the class structure and content is suitable. Fees are £35 in advance for ten weeks (first lesson is free), including AMA/EKF registration and insurance. For siblings training there is a £5 per head discount. Regular updates of our activity are published on this page.

Dear members,
The new 10 week session begins next week, September 5th 2009. Then 12th, 19th, 26th, October 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, November 7th.
Given the massive advance in progress by all students, I am proposing a change in lesson regime. At present the classes are:
Novices 9.10-9.50AM
Intermediates 10.00-11AM
Adults & advanced 11.15-12.30
What I am proposing is two classes of slightly longer duration (giving some of you a bit of a lie-in!) as follows:
General class (Novice to purple belt) 9.30-10.30
Advanced class (Adults all grades, and children of purple belt and above) 10.30-12.00
In order to ensure everyone is aware of the change - and to listen to your opinions where you may have better alternative suggestions - I propose to start this new timetable from 12th September. Prices will remain unchanged for these longer sessions at £35 per child for 10 weeks and £5 per child sibling discount.
As a reminder, all communication will be posted on the website at www.towershukokai.co.uk
Also, don't forget we are privileged to be hosting former Special Forces operative, Andy Tate for a four hour self-defence seminar. This will cover tactical, linguistic and behavioural responses to violence and assault, as well as practical strategies, so may be of interest to adults (over 16 years) who do NOT practice karate, as well as the senior club members. More details can be found at the Tower Shukokai website.
Price is £25 per person. Venue is Edgworth school, on Sunday September 20th. Please see me with cash payment in advance if you would like to take part.

This is the final lesson of the current ten week course.
The new course will be as follows: June 13th, 27th, July 11th, 18th, 25th, Aug 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th. Please continue to watch the website for updates. www.towershukokai.co.uk (or just put “Darwen Karate“ into your search engine).
Note there is no session on Saturday June 20th as I will be away, and July 4th is Summer Fair at school.
Remember too, my family and I are cycling the 60 miles from Manchester to Blackpool on July 12th. We are raising funds for the Christie Hospital and transplant games hopeful Beth Morris. You can sponsor us by going to the justgiving website at www.justgiving.com/nxp4c2009 or follow the link from the club website, or ask me for the paper sponsor form.
Please join me in congratulating Ian Marsden and Phil Wan from the adults’ class for passing their black belt test last weekend.
Advance warning that in September we are hosting former special forces operative Andy Tate for a self defence / self protection seminar, and parents or other interested adults are welcome. Again see the club website for further details.
Finally, if you are contactable by email, please can you let me have your details, to ensure you are kept as up to date as possible with any developments
